- Authors
Wong, Alice C. Y.
- Abstract
Pedagogical documentation developed by educators in the early childhood schools of Reggio Emilia, Italy is becoming a recognized and viable tool for teacher learning in Canada. This article examines an approach to professional development that supports pedagogical documentation as a sustained, collaborative, and dialogic practice among childcare practitioners. Six early childhood educators participate in dialogue engagements -- a time and space created for early childhood educators to talk about documentation. Meeting regularly over a period of eight-weeks, participants collaboratively learn how to 1) listen and observe effectively; 2) develop documentation that makes visible, the children's thinking; and 3) challenge themselves to think more seriously about the children's hypotheses that can guide practitioners in their curriculum work.
