- Abstract
The article explores the role of Marian miracle tales in East Slavic Orthodoxy during the late 17th century. Particular focus is given to the tales' political significance. According to the author, miracle tales were a valuable tool through which Ukrainian clergy could influence lay and religious authorities during a time of political and institutional change. Details on the localized nature of the tales are presented. Other topics include Ukrainian Orthodoxy and sacred sites in Ukraine.
