- Abstract
This article focuses on a study related to the intravenous magnesium sulfate prophylaxis for atrial arrhythmias after pulmonary resection. Atrial arrhythmia is a rhythm disorder commonly seen early after pulmonary resection and it complicates postoperative recovery. Researchers sought to determine whether early prophylaxis with following magnesium sulfate reduces the incidence and morbidity associated with atrial arrhythmias after resection surgery of the lung. Prophylactic administration of magnesium sulfate reduced the incidence of supraventricular tachyarrhythmias, but did not reduce the incidence of atrial fibrillation or flutter after pulmonary resection.
