The article discusses a speech by the Honorable Jonathan Lippman, Chief Judge of the State of New York, Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals, which was delivered as the 20th Justice William J. Brennan Jr. Lecture on State Courts and Social Justice at the New York University School of Law in New York, New York on March 11, 2014.
