- Title
When to Make Telephone Interviews.
- Authors

- Abstract
This study was undertaken to determine the most fruitful days of the week and time of day to complete telephone interviews with housewives or female heads of households. The findings of the study indicate that statistically significant differences do exist for parts of the week and times of the day that telephone interviews with house-wives or female heads of households are likely to be most successful. Perhaps prior notification by mail explaining the general purpose of the interview, the approximate time it will occur, and the identity of the sponsoring organization might reduce the refusal rate since it would probably reduce uncertainty or suspicion present when the respondent receives an unexpected telephone call from a stranger requesting an interview. Not-at-home rates might also be reduced if the letter makes respondents feel obligated to be at home or simply take pride in their selection.
