- Abstract
The use of the central venous catheter in the critical care area is essential because it allows us to administer drugs, hypertonic solutions, extraction of laboratory samples, hemodynamic monitoring and parenteral nutrition, making it necessary to address this issue to understand the importance of the care that nursing staff must perform to prevent complications in patients who are in the critical care unit. The objective of this research is to develop a method for the evaluation of nursing care to prevent central venous catheter complications in critical care patients. The method bases its operation on a multi-criteria approach where uncertainty is modeled using neutrosophic numbers. The results indicate that the complications associated with the insertion or extraction of the catheter range between 1 to 20% in morbidity and mortality due to the long hospital stays and the prolonged time of the central venous catheter. Among the care that must be carried out to avoid complications of the central venous catheter is to keep a daily record, exhaustive hand washing, cleaning the CVC area every 48 hours, washing the catheter every time medication is administered to prevent infections from occurring and complications in patients in the critical care area.
