- Abstract
The article presents information related to the development of antidepressants. The mood elevating property of isoniazid became the primary effect in depression and started generations of newer antidepressants. Currently, monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitors are not first choice antidepressants and selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitor (SSRI) are being used.Exciting new targets including the amino acids GABA and glutamate, are being investigated with regard to antidepressant drug development.
