La isla de Bioko en el mundo atlántico: dinámicas de enclave y órdenes transfronterizos.
- Authors
Campos Serrano, Alicia
- Abstract
This article traces the last two centuries of the island of Bioko, from its late incorporation into the Atlantic World during the era of the abolition of slavery, to the discovery and export of oil and gas from its surrounding seas since the 1990s. The transnational connections it has since experienced have led to fragmented social situations, and a diverse population varying in citizenship rights. On the other hand, commercial products generated by its territory or adjacent seas have served as fundamental resources for its elite classes, who have often arrived from afar, and have presided over political regimes characterized by despotism and the exclusion of the majority of islanders.
