The essay discusses the history of Chinese science fiction, from the first Chinese translation of "Around the World in Eighty Days" by Jules Verne to original Chinese literature such as "Dream for Peace" by Gu Junzheng. The author describes how nationalism, the perfecting of the human body through technology, and the programming of human minds are treated in Chinese fiction. The author mentions translator Lu Xun, who translated several of Verne's works into Chinese.
