- Abstract
The article focuses on the leaf disease of beach sunflower (Helianthus debilis) which is attributed to a Candidatus Phytoplasma asteris-related strain in Florida. During a demonstration garden of native plants in Broward county in Florida in 2005 and 2006, indicative symptoms of phytoplasma disease were observed on the beach sunflower. Thus, an assessment for phytoplasm DNA was conducted on the DNA samples that were extracted from the shoots of the diseased and symptomless plants. The result of the study is discussed.
