Host Plants of Tulip Stem Eelworm (Ditylenchus dipsaci).
- Authors
Helsing, J. J.
- Abstract
This article cites a study that examined host plants of tulip stem eelworm in England. Cultivars of 15 species of crop plants were tested to find out if they were hosts of Ditylenchus dipsaci Filipjev from tulip. Some eelworms were recovered from all plants after eight weeks. Eelworms increased greatly in beans, peas, onion, turnip, and cucurbits, often without inducing plant symptoms. Tulip stem eelworm is known to thrive in onion, but even in this plant it is difficult to maintain the correct balance between the host and the eelworm. Often the onions are killed as seedlings and the eelworm dies with them, or the infestation disappears.
