- Authors
Banin, Linsay
- Abstract
The article comments on the Fruits for the Future project in Great Britain. The project was established by the International Centre for Underutilized Crops in 1998 in partnership with the Department for International Development, FAO, Intermediate Technology Development Group. The aim of the project is to encourage farming underutilized fruit crops in less developed countries to improve local economies. The project also aims to help improve health through nutrition and food security, and create a sustainable livelihood for local communities. The project suggested that the major constraints to effective use of crops are access to information on use, inefficient and poor quality production and processing methods and ineffective marketing.
