- Abstract
The article presents a case study on the development of concepts of originalism in countries other than the U.S including Malaysia and Singapore. Topics discussed include judicial interpretation of a written constitution, the origins of originalism and the association of originalism with judicial restraint. It further focuses on originalist arguments invoked in debates on secularism and Islam in the Constitution of Malaysia and constitutionality issues of mandatory death penalty in Singapore.
