- Abstract
The study aimed to identify the common spelling mistakes in official correspondence of the administrative staff of the College of Education - Sultan Qaboos University, in order to classify these mistakes according to the spelling skills and identify the possible reasons behind making these mistakes. The study also sought to propose ways to raise the levels of awareness of the administrative staff with regards to handling these mistakes. To achieve the purpose of the study, the researcher used descriptive analytical method. The study sample consisted of (300) official letters, where mistakes were counted, classified, and analyzed. The findings of the analysis revealed spelling mistakes in (14) sections. The most common mistakes was the Hamza section. The results also showed that the spelling level of these employees was weak. In light of these results, the researcher recommended the necessity of organizing training courses and programs for this administrative staff conducted by Arabic language specialized staff members.
