ON THE THIRD BOUNDARY-VALUE PROBLEM IN PLANE STRAIN.

- Abstract
Classical integral equation techniques used to investigate the solvability of the interior third boundary-value problem in three-dimensional elasticity fail in the two-dimensional case on account of the divergence of the corresponding potential at infinity. In this paper we show how to overcome this difficulty with the use of a modified single-layer potential. In addition, the exterior third problem of plane strain is solved in a class of functions with a particular far-field pattern without which the classical three-dimensional approach fails to work.
