- Abstract
In a dynamic world, what better way to gain a perspective on the future than to look closely at the merchants of change? Such revolutionary cultural dynamics as the information age and the global economy were created in large part by high tech industry. Many challenges facing employees in the design of retirement plans for this industry could provide clues about what challenges we will meet in the coming years. Such issues as competition for qualified personnel, portability of benefits, eligibility, vesting and investment options will assume new relevance in the years ahead. We will need to reevaluate the role of 401 (k) plans in overall retirement planning. Indications are that 401 (k)plans will take on greater prominence because of flexibility and relative low cost. This article discusses the future of 4O1(k) plans by an analysis of the high technology industry.
