- Abstract
The article describes a study of the effectiveness of female condoms and the microbicide nonoxynol-9 as female-controlled methods of contraception and prevention of sexually transmitted diseases such as HIV/AIDS in Malawi. Men and women in stable marital relationships were interviewed about sexual behaviors of themselves and their partners, knowledge and attitudes about HIV transmission, and acceptance and willingness to use microbicide or female condoms.
