The article discusses the legal issues involved in the burgeoning so-called mugshot industry, in which the photographs of recently arrested persons are shared publicly, whether for pay or otherwise. Topics mentioned include the suspects' rights of publicity, the use of such photographs in popular celebrity news websites such as TMZ.com, and how courts determine whether such photographs are truly newsworthy.
