- Abstract
The article describes the case of a 41 year old Hispanic woman whose chief complaint was pain in the neck, joints and shoulders. A urine specimen tested positive for benzodiazepines using the Syva EMIT immunoassay at the cutoff of 200 ng/mL although the results of a confirmatory test conducted via gas chromatography-mass spectrometry revealed the presence of alprazolam. Findings suggest that the patient used a substituted urine specimen where she added fragments of a crushed alprazolam pill.
