- Abstract
The article presents a study on the methicillin resistance and biochemical characteristics of Staphylococcus aureus isolates in various hospitals in Lahore, Pakistan. The researchers collected 100 bacterial isolates from various private and public sector hospitals., after which the bacterial strains were confirmed by catalase production, mannitol fermentation and Gram staining. They found that a reduction in unnecessary antibiotic prescription can reduce the rate of antibiotic resistant organisms effectively. They concluded that the incorrect identification of resistant strains and the false reporting and misdiagnosis of S. aureus as coagulase negative staphylococci are serious threats for increased antibiotic resistance.
