- Abstract
The article presents a study on the association of senile dementia in elderly people with the electrophoretically resolved low molecular weight protein fractions. The researchers drawn out blood for sampling, added it to acid wash test tubes and then prepared polyacrylamide gels. They found that the serum proteins are declining progressively with the advancing stage of senile dementia while the protein profile in the severe dementia group is closer to that of the control group. They also concluded that mental exercise and a well balanced diet can be helpful in the prevention and treatment of dementia if provided for longer time periods.
