- Abstract
Studies the home ranges and seasonal movements of 20 wood turtles Clemmys insculpta living near the northern limit of their distribution in Mauricie, Quebec. The wood turtle is irregularly distributed in northeastern North America. Wood turtles seem to demonstrate great fidelity in the use of their home range. Illegal collecting, habitat destruction, fragmentation, and recreational activities are the greatest causes of wood turtle decline and disappearance. It is hypothesized that home ranges would be larger in the northern population than in more southerly ones, since home range will increase with increasing latitude.
