- Title
Point‐of‐care gastric ultrasound: food for thought.
- Authors
Lyons, C.; El‐Boghdadly, K.
- Abstract
The article discusses a study on the use of point-of-care gastric ultrasound to assess the risk of pulmonary aspiration in anesthesia. The study found that many patients with risk factors for aspiration had solid antral content despite following fasting guidelines. The authors suggest that gastric ultrasound could potentially change airway management practices, but caution against using a specific gastric fluid volume threshold for management decisions. The article emphasizes the need for more research and training in gastric ultrasound to improve clinical practice. The article also discloses that one of the authors has received funding from several healthcare companies.
