- Authors
Heetkamp, Simon J.
- Abstract
The update on the Singapore Convention provides information on the current status of international recognition and enforcement of mediation outcomes. So far, a total of 55 states have signed the Convention, of which ten states have ratified it. It is noted that there is currently no known case where international recognition and enforcement of a mediation outcome has occurred. It is also mentioned that discussions are taking place within the EU regarding whether the EU can sign the Singapore Convention for all member states or if this is solely the responsibility of the member states. The article provides an overview of the current status of the Singapore Convention, which facilitates the recognition and enforcement of foreign arbitral awards. It is noted that the United Kingdom intends to join the Singapore Convention, while Germany and the EU have not yet taken a final position on the matter.
