- Abstract
British officials falsely claimed that wounded policemen - decorated former soldiers of the First World War - had been hewn apart by axe-wielding IRA murderers (pp. 26-27). Curiously there is far less controversy attached to those soldiers who did not resist abduction by the IRA and who were later shot dead during this period. Morrison, Eve Kilmichael: The Life and Afterlife of An Ambush, Irish Academic Press: Dublin, 2022; x + 292 pp.: 9781788551458, €19.95 paperback At the Battle of Kohima in north-east India in 1944, a tired and angry soldier from the British Army's 2 SP nd sp Battalion Royal Norfolk Regiment killed two Japanese prisoners who had just surrendered.
