- Abstract
The article presents a brief history of wide-ranging African fashion as of November 2015. Topics discussed include the common value given to appearance and adornment in Africa as they indicate status, ambitions, beliefs, and life stage, the importance of textiles in communication, and the renewed sense of cultural identity expressed by fashion when colonialism fell in the 1960s. Also noted are fashion developments in Nigeria, Mali, and the Congo, and designers like Chris Seydou and Kofi Ansah.
