- Abstract
Technology is one of the four basic factors that influence the market position and the possible achievement of a company's leadership on the market. The development of high quality infrastructural systems permits the company to continually improve its market offers, and consequently to gain a competitive advantage over rival companies. To accomplish this, two infrastructural systems play a major role -- the data warehouse system and the knowledge management system. The knowledge management systems have already evolved to a certain extent, and today there are two generations of these systems: 1st generation -- Document & Records Management Systems 2nd generation -- Corporate portals The Corporate portals are mainly used for simple and effective exchange, the sharing of knowledge by means of web services. They allow users access to reports, information and data in an easy and flexible way. This paper presents the collaborative Portal of ULJANIK Shipyard. Its purpose is to allow access to heterogeneous data stored in several places. Users can access different data to get answers to ad hoc questions, but they can also generate regular reports. Users are at the same time active creators of the Portal contents and the job of publishing the different items passes from informatics to the users who generate the contents themselves.
