- Abstract
The objective of this study was to compare the labor gymnastic effects (GL) in the variables (weight, stature and body fat percentage - %G), functional (strength, localized muscle resistance and flexibility), life style and absenteeism among practicing and non-practicing employees of the GL program in an industry. There 100 people have participated, but they were divided in two groups: 50 men (33.12±9.36 years old), and 50 women (28.00±6.57 years old). The male group was subdivided in two other groups; the first group (GML: n=25) participated in the GL, the second group (GMC: n=25) didn't participate. The female group was subdivided in the same way, participants in the GL (GFL: n=25) and non-participants (GFC: n=25). Looking at the variables that presented normal results, it was used the "T" test and the ones that didn't present a normal distribution <0.05 (Shapiro-Wilk test), the non-parametric Mann-Whitney test. Through statistic analysis established that: the GML acquired significantly better indexes than (p<0.05) GMC in the variables: %G, lumbar spine flexibility, abdominal resistance and life style. The GML still acquired better results in the strength of hand (left and right), shoulders and knees flexibility, but they weren't significant. The CFL acquired significantly better results than the CFC in the variable: %G shoulders and knees flexibility. The GFL still acquired better average improvements in the strength of the left hand, lumbar spine flexibility, abdominal resistance and life style, but they weren't significant. The result points out the GL as an important tool to the improvement of the employee's health, therefore, other programs to stimulate a more active life stile must be adopted, trying to adapt the necessities of the employees with the company's reality.
