- Abstract
The article focuses on the impact of the German occupation of the Channel Islands during the years 1940 to 1945 on the islanders' health. The discussion is based on a systematic review of conditions on the Channel Islands that are described by primary sources and published sources such as the Channel Islands Occupation Birth Cohort Study. Major events in Guernsey during the occupation and military campaigns such as D-Day landings which affected the food supply are discussed. The specifics of weekly food and bread rationing in Guernsey are noted. The availability of fuel and medical supplies is also noted. The effect of poor hygiene on disease is mentioned. Mortality rates during the occupation are also mentioned.
