- Abstract
The article presents a biography of Irish traditional musician Mike Rafferty. Details about Rafferty's childhood in East Galway, Ireland and his early instruction in the tin whistle and flute are discussed. He emigrated to the U.S. in order to find work and settled in New Jersey. He recorded the compilation albums "Irish Traditional Music from the Eastern United States" and "The Light through the Leaves," and the solo album "Speed 78." He was given a National Heritage Award in 2010.
