- Abstract
The article focuses on the use of cavitation shotless peening (CSP) to improve the fatigue strength of the elements of a steel belt for continuous variable transmission. It states that the elements' weakest portion is found at the "neck" root which works into metallic rings. It mentions that the root of the neck is rounded and the element's shape is optimized to reduce the stress concentration. It explains the CSP method, which uses cavitation bubbles collapse to peen the surface through deep narrow cavities where traditional peening methods couldn't reach.
