- Abstract
This article presents information related to genetic mapping of spinal dysmyelination in American Brown Swiss cattle to bovine Chromosome 11. Bovine spinal dysmyelination (BSD) is a congenital neurological disorder occurring in several national cattle breeds upgraded with American Brown Swiss cattle. In order to map the locus responsible for BSD, samples were obtained from animals participating in a previously performed breeding study. Genotypes of markers on these chromosomes indicate that these candidate genes and candidate chromosomes could be excluded. A search for candidate genes on HSA2 reveals that no genes encoding proteins directly involved in the myelin complex map to this chromosome at present.
