No burial for 10,000-year-old bones.
- Authors
Dalton, Rex
- Abstract
The article reports on the decision of the University of California not to repatriate two well-preserved 10,000-year-old skeletons to the Native American tribe Kumeyaay. It is said that the decision was made because university officials could not prove the cultural affiliation of the bones, which were unearthed by archaeological students in 1976. However, Kumeyaay spokesman Steve Banegas said that the bones are from their tribe and insisted that the bones be reburied.
