- Abstract
As its orders and prohibitions are placed to be implemented, religion is an issue that needs education. Hence, religion education both glorifies individuals and societies in terms of ethic and it serves basic role like an engine in social, political and economic developments. In this context, all societies have paid attention to religious education and have created institutions and organizations to provide this education. When we look at its historical process, religious education which started in Daru'l-Erkam, Mecca before hegira and Ashab-ı Suffe, Medina after hegira continued by turning into an institution with Islamic monasteries, zawiya and madrasa. Today, it is carried out by mosques, Quran courses, Imam Hatip schools, Seminaries, Faculties of Islamic Theology and Faculties of Education. The role of fiqh in religious education is a fact which continues from birth to death. Religion reminds to recite the adhan to right ear and iqama to the left ear when a child is born, to order prayer when they are seven, to be punished if they do not perform prayer when they are ten. It pronounces the judgments of actions in life. It declares the funeral with prayers in time of death. So everyone who wants to lead a religious life has to learn his/ her religion. Fiqh is the discipline which regulates the practice of religion. To observe the orders of religion is only possible with the knowledge of fiqh.
