- Authors
Epley, Nicholas; Gilovich, Thomas
- Abstract
The article examines how motivations and emotions can influence judgment and decision. It describes motivated reasoning as the kind of reasoning that serves a person's self-interest. It explores the impact of "above-average" effects on self-evaluation and the effort of an individual to assess their standing in relation to peers. It explains how personal goals can distort an individual's ability to recruit and evaluate evidence.
