The article deals with song cycles by Mexican composer Manuel M. Ponce. The styles, poetry, vocal ranges, and voice and piano parts in his song cycles are discussed. Ponce's song cycles include Two Songs, Tres poemas de Lermontow and Tres poemas de M. Brull. Some aspects of the song cycles are examined including dissonance, allusions to nature, irregular phrasing, harmonic independence and alternating time signatures.
