- Abstract
From 2017 to 2020, field trials were conducted at seven sites in the Bavarian Alpine grassland region to regulate J. aquatica in grassland under conventional management. The experiments were designed as casecontrol studies. The regulatory measures examined were adapted to the conditions of the individual locations. As core measures, regulation by the use of herbicides, mechanical control or deep cutting and darkening were considered. The efficiency and sustainability of the respective measures varied depending on the specific core measure and the individual test sites. Chemical regulation by a single herbicide application in autumn 2017 showed very high direct control performance at all test sites. The efficacy of Simplex, an aminopyralid-containing herbicide approved in grassland for control of dicotyledon weeds, and the clopyralid-containing test agents Lontrel 600 and Vivendi 100, was equivalent. A regeneration of J. aquatica was halted by mechanical control of individual plants at the end of the experimental period. The site-specific possibility of regulating J. aquatica by darkening or a multi-year abandonment of use and the efficient regulation performance by hand removal was confirmed by the tests. The pyrrolizidine content in the grassland regrowth was reduced in relation to the regulatory performance. The test results prove that successful management of J. aquatica in grassland is possible by means of sitespecific and sustainable regulatory measures (GEHRING & THYSSEN, 2016; GEHRING et al., 2021).
