- Title
Material fallacies of education research evidence and public policy advice.
- Authors
O'Neill, John
- Abstract
The author examines a case of material fallacy in education policy discourse in New Zealand aimed at promoting discussion of the responsibilities of researchers whenever research evidence is used mistakenly. He identifies errors in the reply of the Minister of Education to a Parliamentary question about a Treasury briefing that included an assertion about school funding policy. The significance of the case to researchers in relation to the use of material fallacies is also discussed.
