- Abstract
The osteoarthrithis is an articular disorder characterized by subchondral sclerosis, osteophytes formation and loss of joint cartilage leading to articulation deterioration. This disease affects more than 50 million adults in the age group of 50. The plants and your bioactive molecules are the subject of scientific researches for the development of effective medicines for many diseases treatment. This review is a bibliographical survey of used plants for treating the osteoarthrithis in the American population and lists those ones with studied pharmacological effect. This review is intended to provide data that can be used in research and development of new therapeutic agents. So we have listed 28 botanic families and 44 species of plants that have been used in the treatment of osteoarthrithis. We also found 16 species of plants which their anti-osteoarthrithis activity is evaluated.
