- Title
SHAW'S XENOPHILOUS NEW WOMAN: RAINA PETKOFF AS MISTRESS OF HER DOMAIN.
- Authors
Stober, Katharyn
- Abstract
A literary criticism of the play "Arms and the Man" by Bernard Shaw is presented, discussing the character Raina Petkoff. The author argues that Raina is portrayed as similar to the biblical figure Eve, that she represents a prefigurement of a strong New Woman, and that she enables Shaw to critique xenophobia. Other characters discussed include Captain Bluntschli, Catherine Petkoff, and Sergius Saranoff.
