- Abstract
Introduction: The low adherence to pharmacologic treatment comprises one of the greatest threats to the effectiveness of treatment of patients with HIV. The success of this therapy depends on the high degree of adherence to treatment. Objectives: To determine the degree adherence to pharmacotherapeutic treatment of HIV carriers in Alfenas- MG and to evaluate the predictor factors of adherence. Methodology: This is a quantitative research, exploratory, descriptive and analytical. The survey was conducted in the Dispensing Antiretroviral Medicines Unit (DAMU) and the Counseling and Testing Center (CTC) of the city of Alfenas, where 129 users of antiretroviral drugs were interviewed. It was applied the adherence test CEAT-HIV. For the analysis of results, were done the chi-square and Fisher's exact test, to 5% of significance level. Results: There was a predominance of male patients (57.4%), 39% were aged between 39 to 48 years, mostly single (37.2%), 23% had not completed elementary school and 42% had family incomes up to the minimum wage. Most patients acquired the disease through unprotected sex (77%); they were diagnosed for more than 5 years (33.3%), that don't drink or smoke (58% and 63% respectively). Regarding adherence, only 37.2% had strict adherence, 30.2% good adherence and 32.6% low adherence. The variables that were shown dependent on adherence were gender (pvalor = 0.02) and viral load (pvalor = 0.01). Conclusion: Although the patient is often the focus of interventions to improve adherence to treatment, it is necessary that health care professionals and health services assume co-responsibility in this process.
