The article offers information on how the collateral source rule is treated in the U.S. It states that the collateral source rule is a rule of damages and a rule of evidence, which prohibits the reduction of a recovery by payments from collateral sources. It emphasizes that the rule that the collateral benefits are not subtracted from the recovery of the plaintiff, applies to insurance policies, employment benefits and social legislation benefits.
