- Abstract
In the Middle East, nothing is certain except change. The area is rich in resources and internationally intriguing, yet it lags behind other world regions in economic and technological competitiveness. Although the region is an arena where world powers compete to position themselves economically and politically, it is still not adequately understood. In spite of great long-term potentials the current economic picture appears bleak. Is the region on the verge of collapse, or could it be the site of the next economic miracle? What changes are needed to realize world-class economic competitiveness? This article explores the state of business and offers ways to position the region to compete effectively in the global marketplace.
