- Abstract
The author offers information on the annual boat-design competition for high school students sponsored by the Northrop Grumman Apprentice School. The design competition is designed to increase awareness of naval architecture profession and the shipbuilding industry. He states the four major challenges his team had to overcome included time constraints, the ability of students to apply their math skills to the design and the integration of a three-dimensional (3-D) modeling software application. He states the design competition is a challenging and rigorous engineering activity.
