- Abstract
Introduction: Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disease which can lead to amputations. Improving care for amputee patients is a complex activity, and little has been written in the scientific literature on this subject. Objective: To verify manual therapy techniques effects in the rehabilitation of a diabetic patient with transfemoral amputation user of prosthesis. Method: We performed an evaluation of the patient's clinical data before and after application of manual therapy, which consisted of neural stretching techniques, lumbar manipulations, myofascial release and manual stretching. Results: The patient being studied showed an improvement of 15° in the flexion of the hip on the amputated side and absence of pain in the anterior region of the stump, in the lumbar region of the spine, and in the intact knee. Conclusion: The manual therapy promoted a better joint mobility and redistribution of body weight, benefiting the patient's condition.
