- Title
People We Love to Love and People We Love to Hate: Predicting Desired Outcomes of Reality TV Scenarios.
- Authors
Young, Jennifer L.; Irwin, Julie
- Abstract
The authors focus on determining the qualities of participants that consumers look for when deciding on a reality television contestant to support or root against. In their study, they looked at the relationship between certain respondent ratings, such as attractiveness, similarity to self and intelligence, and the respondent's wish to see the contestant either win or lose. Their findings matched their hypothesis which was that consumer preference for contestant success depended on reality show type, such as drama, sadism, trickery and glamour.
