- Abstract
The book "Corona Crisis in the Workplace: Empirical Experiences from Industry and Services" by Richard Detje and Dieter Sauer examines the effects of the Corona pandemic on companies. The authors conducted interviews with representatives of the IG Metall and Ver.di to analyze the impact on work and health protection measures, short-time work, home office, and changes in industrial relations. They find that short-time work has generally worked well, but a scenario of unemployment is predicted for simpler jobs. The authors call for collective regulation of short-time work. They also emphasize the importance of infection protection for companies and the need for social security measures. Furthermore, the changing significance of "system relevance" is discussed, with social services being classified as system-relevant but at the same time being precarized.
