Recurrent ptosis.
Abstract
The article presents information on chronic progressive external ophthalmoplegia, an inherited mitochondrial myopathy characterized by the progressive paralysis of the extraocular muscles and symmetric ptosis. It is said that mutations in the mitochondrial DNA affecting the mitochondrial respiratory chain is the cause of the pathogenesis of progressive external ophthalmoplegia. It found that coenzyme Q and other vitamin supplementation have not showed any benefit in patients with this condition.
