- Abstract
The micro-analysis of a face-to-face interaction between Portuguese students and of another one between Angolan students were compared regarding the nonverbal modalities such as the use of gesture space and the creation of interactional space, interpersonal distance and touch, gesture and hand configuration, and posture. This first comparison will be extended with another, considering an interaction in Portuguese as a second language between a Senegalese and a Japanese student. The objective of this study is to emphasize the important role of nonverbal modalities as a product of the social reality and the representation of cultural values and habits.
