- Abstract
This article discusses a study comparing intracorporeal anastomosis (ICA) and extracorporeal anastomosis (ECA) in laparoscopic right colectomy. The study found that ICA had a higher risk of abdominal and wound infections compared to ECA. However, the authors note that observational studies and post hoc analysis have limitations in controlling for confounding variables. They also suggest that the choice of ICA or ECA may have been influenced by surgeon experience and the need for wider resections in ICA cases. The authors recommend the use of strategies such as preoperative endoscopic tattooing and intraoperative colonoscopy to ensure safe margins and anastomotic perfusion in ICA procedures.
